Most of the phylogenetic characters of Magnoliaceae are distributed in a reticulated way, and there is a great controversy on the boundary between taxa and genus due to the ambiguous boundary between taxa and genus in the classification systems. Among them, the Sima Yongkang-Lu Shugang system, constructed in 2012 based on the evolution of 38 morphological traits, is a new system that divides the Magnoliaceae into 2 subfamilies, 2 groups with 15 genera. Phylogenetic analysis based on the full sequence of cpDNA by Sima Yongkang's team confirmed that all 15 genera of the Sima Yongkang-Lu Shugang system were monophyletic groups, which further revealed the solid scientific and strong predictability of the Sima Yongkang-Lu Shugang system at the molecular level of DNA. At present, the Sima Yongkang-Lu Shugang system has been accepted by some scholars, and has laid a solid theoretical foundation for better understanding of the diversity of Magnoliaceae, research in other disciplines, conservation and utilization of Magnoliaceae.
